Summer Fun or World of Distractions

Summer Fun or a World of Distractions?

Now that we are officially into our summer season, you will notice more vehicles on the road. Sports cars, RV's, motorcycles, and fun vehicles like topless jeeps etc. In Ohio we have a limited season for this type of activity so we all go at it with enthusiasm. Where ever we are going and what ever we may be doing, we want to get there fast and get the most out of each day. It is easy to lose focus on good driving habits. It is not that we are bad drivers or careless, however, we do have to make a conscious effort to say - I am not going to allow my cell phone to take my attention off of my driving. It just takes a moment of error to be involved in a terrible accident.

Driving at a high speed such as 60 or 70 mph along with a distraction can cause a horrific life alternating situation. People who have been involved in such a situation will tell you nothing is as important as driving your vehicle safely. Driving with total control. Don't allow anything to distract you. Nothing is as important as you driving your vehicle safely at all times. A text message can wait. Everything can wait. If you absolutely have to do something else while you are driving then you need to pull over and stop driving.

If you know you have to answer text messages, then you should not put yourself behind the wheel knowing that the distractions are coming. Something has to wait. You have to be responsible for your safety along with the safety of your passengers and the other people who share the road with you. Summer should be a fun time. You should be able to enjoy each day. Keep your quality of life. Don't allow yourself to be caught up in a world of distractions.

Take charge of your life. Make the conscious effort to say no to driving distractions. Put your phone away and focus on driving. You'll find that yes, you can wait for your text messages. Everyone will understand that while you are driving you do not text. They will respect you for that and maybe you can influence someone else to say no to texting while driving. Plus you can enjoy your summer drive since your eyes will be on the road instead of looking down at your cell phone.
